Based on the South Central Farm movement to save 14 acres of farmland in the middle of urban Los Angeles from destruction, a farm for meme is a hip hopera, that documents a mother’s attempt to teach her children an alternative to consumer culture. It is a reclaiming of histories and traditions and the centering of women’s storytelling and lived experience. We have been asked to perform a farm for meme in Rwanda, Africa in July 2007. In addition to their performances in a farm for meme, Hailstorm and Tiwaeis will also be performing music from their debut CDs in both Rwanda and Uganda.
